Remembering Peanut: A Small Tribute To A Beloved Guinea Pig

My Daughter,

Yesterday, on January 15th, your dearest guinea pig, Peanut, passed away due to advanced age, surpassing the remarkable milestone of over 8 years. It’s hard to fathom that this sweet little fella would have celebrated his 9th birthday this year. To put this into perspective, the average lifespan of a guinea pig is between 5 to 6 years; you literally had this little guy over half your life; now that’s really saying something.

I remember (like it was yesterday) when you took him home on August 15, 2017, and from the very beginning, you demonstrated exceptional knowledge and skill in caring for this adorable piglet.

Peanut brought such immense joy and an abundance of love to you (and you him!). The bond you both shared was truly special, and it’s something that nothing or no-one can ever take away from you.

Peanut was probably one of the few guinea pigs who absolutely loved to go on vacations. Yes, that’s right, he went with you on several vacations and he absolutely loved it! I remember you telling me how he’d be in the back of the car, making happy wheeks and squeaks; I somehow sense he also knew he was in for extended baby carrot eating sessions once he got to where you were going, too!

Peanut was so blessed to have you as his Mommy; his long life is so indicative of your love, care and compassion.

You will always be his Mommy, and what a special Mommy you are!

Love,
Dad
