Eternal Tech Support: My Plea For Peace

Daily writing prompt
What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.

Monday through Friday, my brain operates in a delightful state of digital chaos. I wrestle with Windows 11 devices and their problems, MacBooks and macOS issues, and troubleshoot more tech gremlins than I care to admit. It’s a good life, mostly. But it leaves me craving one thing above all else: peace. A tech-free zone. A sanctuary of silence. You know, the kind of place where the only connection is to my Missus, a good cooking show on the TV and a comfy blanket.

A man looks frustrated while working on a computer, surrounded by six onlookers who appear to be amused or intrigued.

It’s a universal phenomenon, isn’t it? The moment you think you’re free from the digital overlords, a family member’s voice pipes up, “Hey, can you take a quick look at my computer? It’s doing that weird flickering thing again.” Or a friend will text, “SOS! My computer is making strange noises!”

And here’s the thing: I love my friends and family. I really do. But my brain? My brain is currently running on a low battery of “Please, no more tech!” It’s like my mental hard drive is full, and adding another tech support request is going to crash the whole system.

It’s not that I don’t want to help. I genuinely do. But my downtime is my recharge time. It’s my chance to switch off the digital noise and just be. It’s my escape from the endless cycle of troubleshooting, updating, and resetting.

So, if you catch me staring blankly into space while muttering about bandwidth, please understand. It’s not a personal slight. It’s a plea for digital mercy. I’m just a human being who needs a little peace and quiet to avoid having a full-blown tech meltdown.

Maybe we can schedule a dedicated “tech support hour” sometime? (Just kidding… mostly.)

In the meantime, I’ll be over here, blissfully trying to enjoy my offline existence. And hoping that my Wi-Fi doesn’t decide to take a break too <insert sarcasm here>.

  1. I totally get this and would much rather go to our local tech guy with the bonus of supporting a local business! You absolutely need to disconnect during your offtime.
