Fort Wayne Railroad Bridge

Several days ago, I captured a photograph of Pittsburgh’s Fort Wayne Railroad Bridge, which spans over the Allegheny River.

The current structure, built between 1901 and 1904, succeeded the original 1868 wrought-iron lattice truss commissioned for the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railway. It was raised in 1918 to accommodate modern river navigation, and a lower level once bustled with local freight trains until a 1980s platform and track realignment took place through Pennsylvania Station.
