How Interest Affects Learning Motivation

Daily writing prompt
How do you stay motivated when learning something new?

It helps tremendously to be interested in the subject when I am learning something new. Back when I took a macOS certification preparation bootcamp, I was so immersed and interested; the entire week just flew by and I learned so much! Not only did this material\course hold my attention, I looked forward to each morning, and my interactions with the instructor. I loved it!

However, if the subject doesn’t hold any particular interest for me, it really helps to just give it a chance, stay positive, focused, and put my best effort into it. If I interact with the instructor and become involved in the class, I will literally feel the magic of learning unfold after completing each day of the class\session and before I know it, I am actually not only learning something, I am remembering the material, too!

How about you, what do you do to stay interested when you’re learning something new?

  1. I think an innate love of learning carries me through most of the the time, but I admit that if the subject is not of interest to me, then I really need an exceptional teacher to bring it alive for me.

  2. i have to love/be interested in the material. I equate it to watching a good movie where you just wanna rewatch a couple of more times to catch things that you hadn’t the first time around and start to over analyze why the outcome was what it was
