Nature Observations: Bees, Flowers, and More

I wanted to share some more photos from yesterday! I especially loved the delicate detail of the purple iris and the Philadelphia fleabane. I also visited a hive of honeybees living in a tree along the bordering woods; they have been there for several years, and I love to go watch them whenever I can. They were unbelievably busy!

The discarded garment oddly hanging from a dead tree branch along the road was most likely from a power company worker following the recent replacement of utility poles in the field on the other side of the road. Finally, I spotted some pokeweed growing nearby.

    • Flowers are visually appealing and to me, they represent calmness and peace. I LOVE to look at flowers and photograph them. Growing them is another story. I can’t. 😂

      • As a fellow photographer myself, that’s my absolute favorite to photograph (that and food)! I stick to growing roses, they are tough flowers and hard to kill, other than that, I understand what you mean 😂

  1. The purple Iris is so pretty! I haven’t seen the honey bees in some years.

Did you know you can eat pokeweed? My mom used to cook it when I was little, along with lamb’s quarters.

    • Yes, you can only eat pokeweed when it’s very very young, for as it matures and gets bigger, it becomes poisonous. I remember my Mom used to boil up freshly picked young pokeweed for my grandfather; it smelled SO good cooking up, and was even yummier to eat!
